Live Album from Recent Tour?

Postby Synth80s » Wed Apr 25, 2012 11:36 pm

Is there any suggestion that TD might release a live album from his recent tour? Sole Inhabitant was great, but to hear TD with such a talented band was another thing altogether and I would sure love for him to offer another live release.

I was at the first LA show on the last night of the tour. There was an opening act and TD had another show that night, so the first show was cut down by 6 songs including a few of my all-time favorites. That was a big bummer, but a live album with the skipped over tracks would make me feel better about it.

Anyone hear anything on this topic?

I'm hoping for a DVD perhaps CD too. I really enjoyed the SI DVD and my missing plastic disc from the case :( The web versions and the Boston show versions of SI were a special treat as well.

So here is hoping for a historic record of AMOTFC. With the upcoming Euro tours, perhaps TDMR will record in Leipzig :)

I was expressing the same sentiments over in the tour thread. My concert's set list was short as well, and I'd really like to hear what I missed. Not to mention just having these arrangements of the songs.

Years ago I guess it was pretty expensive to film and put out live concerts which is why the bigger bands only did maybe one or two in their whole careers.

Nowadays with digital tech and the internet it's so much easier so maybe it's possible to do at least once for every tour - so why not?

For the record, at the game winners concert in London last November TMDR did have several small digi cameras fixed to the equipment and balcony for a wide shot plus at least one roving camera doing crowd and crowd POV shots, so I should say there's a good chance of that seeing the light of day he's got time after this tour.
I am NOT a number! I am a free ma ... oh, wait. No, apparently I am a number.

Good news indeed; with the upcoming Euro dates, he could vid extra takes just in case they are needed. :)

Can anyone from management (i.e. Lunesse) confirm if this is an official release or not, and will it be released in UK/EU/USA?

Here's the label website:

http://irohasound.com/megurorecords/release.html
http://irohasound.com/thomasdolby/

Here's a translation using google translate (so hence some bad translation)

"Japan for the first performance was achieved through a time of 30 years was held at the Blue Note over the two days 17 and 18 February 2012. Release the CD in one package of the same content and video (DVD) the contents of the Japan tour to commemorate this. The mix of new live recording is done by engineers in Japan itself, and Thomas Dolby, content may be unique to Japan. Has been included in full in the full-length document.
In realization of this concert is by Ryuichi Sakamoto is a friend of Thomas has been cooperation.
Matthew Seligman and Kevin Armstrong also participated in was a support member from the 1980s, content that contains many hit songs of yesteryear fan coveted popular was higher. You say your own content has been prepared for the Japan tour is valuable in the world. The booklet also has assigned bilingual. It is also attractive for the first time there are many song called Japanese translation.

Approximately 80 minutes DVD

IMG-0002 model number

Meguro Records Label

(Track is the same ※ CD, with DVD, CD is the MC has been cut)

That Thomas Dolby was higher also popular in Japan may also out hit songs like that in the 1980s, became a topic such as "Field Work" song collaboration with Ryuichi Sakamoto played live in Japan more than once a I did not have would be surprising. When I heard the full album and come to Japan after a long time been Hissage such that he really was glad. Initially was waiting for Japan as a fan, I brought out the idea to him from the side looks like to contact him through an intermediary approached by some freak coincidence was also the time in Japan, and issued a DVD of live or not was. Reply me from Thomas readily agreed "that idea, it is very interested," and is organized in a short period of time set-up and flap, which led to this release. I say release really urgent.
Passed to Thomas a copy of the data was recorded, after the mix was completed by exchanging data over the Internet and many times he lives in the United Kingdom. I think mix is many have been captured in his opinion, it is also a great song selection, and that the finished good stuff. The video was edited in Japan. I think that was realistic live well.
For bilingual was part wanted to achieve also by all means. In Japan, because there was little to be evaluated him in part because he was not much that can be translated to you're writing lyrics because a lot of fun. Who had become fans of his music while I do not know what you sing is not particularly surprised by the contents of the lyrics may be surprising.
Anyway, saw his first live performance after 30 years was a wonderful thing. I was not exactly the song waned, while many artists often be let down in such respect, he was very impressed that they showed to us to live as expected. I happy to be released as a Japanese edition opportunity to live this precious, get to enjoy in the form of DVD and CD to the fans of Japan is given. Since we are going to enjoy going to Japan to shed his information in the future. Sample video also will be published in the near future. (Ryota Hayashida text)

New album "A Map Of The Floating City" was released last year broke the silence of 20 years is a Japanese release yet released at the moment unfortunately, can be obtained as Music such as Amazon . I also love hearing has been at the height of the degree of satisfactory completion of a long time fan!"

I certainly hope that it is available elsewhere, annoyingly it's not listed on my usual source for Japanese CDs (CD Japan), although I have sent them e-mail to ask them about it.

I've had a reply from CD Japan, unfortunately they won't be stocking this release, as it's being released by an independent label which has limited distribution mainly to small stores. CD Japan can't justify dealing with the label for just one CD release.

I've ordered my copy from jpc.de, the only site in europe that I've found listing it.

Impressive show, great quality.
Probably recorded from both BlueNote shows.
Can't figure out why Matthew only plays on 3 tracks. Anyone?

I bought mine from Amazon Japan. I doubt that anywhere else will be cheaper. Unfortunately, air freight is expensive... if you can, maybe you can buy a few other things at the same time and spread out the cost, like I did.

Anyway, watched the DVD. Good production values. TMDR's voice is a little rough at the beginning, but shapes up. Nice to relive the tour.

The DVD is region-free, by the way.

The DVD/CD is now available on CDBaby for #37.50, plus shipping, which seems to be a better deal than ordering it from Japan.

Yeah, CD Baby are great to deal with. It is a little pricey converted to NZ though, so I'll have a conversion with P&P on top and have a umm about it. :)

Took the plunge and grabbed it from CD Baby when they got a fresh batch of stock in. It is quite expensive with P&P to NZ, but it looks a nice set so was too keen for it!

Arrived today, in five layers of bubble plastic, looked like a football ;)
If you are still on the fence for this release, think no more, just click 'buy', for this may well be the best concert of Thomas' ever released, just absolutely great!
I have only seen/listened to the DVD yet, but it totally rocks, some of the best versions of his songs I have ever heard, and he seems so at ease at the show. A totally great band as well, just fantastic, I only wish I could have been at such a cool pace as the Blue Note club in Tokyo, even the name kinda makes you feel cool, right...
Cool nod to Sakamoto and Sylvian in Field Work as well, where parts of Forbidden colors slipped in ;)

Well worth every cent of 44 bucks.

Yeah, really enjoyable. Laid back, informal nice setting. Nice track line up, although not long enough Lol.I deffo recommend to anyone who is umming whether to buy it.
Thomas mentioned in an update he had a cold during the gig, and sounded like he wasn't overly recommending it, saying it was one for completists!
A little hard on himself there IMO, the only place I thought his vocals werent ace was the first verse of Flat Earth...but not for long. Otherwise top notch IMO

Agreed, this is a great show! Not as high energy as the gigs in the US, but this is due in part to the quiet and polite Japanese crowd (minus one guy in the front who seems REALLY into it!). Having a live recording of Commercial Breakup and Field Work is worth the price alone. This version of Love Is A Loaded Pistol is terrific, too!
