Spam

Postby Lunesse » Thu May 04, 2006 5:59 am

I'm trying, folks.

It's true, I am busy. I'm surprised so many spammers are willing to sit thru that image detection thing the numbers. I could make it so that I have to approve every person that registers, and I might do that after the tour dies down and I have time to let folks in the gates.

I'll keep up as best I can while on the road! Don't feed the trolls, it just gives me more posts I have to delete. =)

I'm going to try to modify things today to slow down the spam. I have made a backup of the forum, so all our info is safe. If it blows up, sorry, but I am going to try to get these bots to go AWAY! =)

While I am at it, I have just upgraded the forum to the newest version of PHPBB.

Thanks for whatever you can do, Lunesse! I haven't seen so much spam in one place since my last trip to Hawaii...

I know, it's a pain. If it's live people not much I can do beyond what I am, but bots should be slower/fixed now. If not, I'll pull out more heavy artillery.

Lunesse: Of course you can remove the spam, but then where am I to go in order to find software, home health aids, love matches, new cars, etc?

Now where is that link to find my soulmate nationwide? I sure hope my wife doesn't mind.

I sold my fake rolex on ebay. The profits were huge. I've quit school, I'm using a Sony Vaio, and I'm sitting in a huge mansion that I built in the rainforest. My butler tell me the time now.

Lunesse, perhaps one way to slow down the spam would be to make some people Moderators?

I'm a Global Moderator on another forum with 3500+ members, and the Admins simply wouldn't be able to cope without the help of us moderators, who are able to delete/lock spammy topics.

Just some food for thought, thats all. Especially considering how these forums are growing in size on a daily basis, you might want to think about picking some of the more active members to be moderators, and help you out.

I wouldn't recommend me, however. I'm hardly here, lol.

Stev: that is actually a good idea. I was a moderator in an old IRC room years ago, and was part of a team that kept out the trolls. There are a couple of people on here that come to mind immediately for moderators if Lunesse ever needs help.

Seems spam is on the rise again.

Nokia cell phones? Sony Playstation?
