Links opening in a new window?

Postby Rushy » Wed Dec 08, 2010 7:40 pm

Any chance of links opening in a new window by default?
It'd save the site losing people who surf in on a link and then surf right out again on another one.
I'm aware that I can open links in a new window by right clicking, I just thought that keeping people here for longer might be the best action and having the default action for a click-able link as opening in a new window/tab would certainly help that goal.
Most of the other fora to which I contribute have slowly come around to this as they realised that clicking out of the web site and leaving isn't a problem for those of us who know the content and have a link back, but casual surfers who visit and vanish might be encouraged to stay a little while if they weren't effectively being encouraged to leave again.

Yes, I agree with that. It's nice to automatically have a new tab pop up to which you can go in your own time.

Ctrl + click should open any link in a new tab. Much easier than right-clicking.

Or you can use your center mouse button.

I think you're about to learn something interesting about your scroll wheel :)

Ah -- well, on mine, at least, if I push down on the wheel (instead of scrolling up or down), I get a center mouse button click. No ctrl + needed.
