Tks for the greeting...Stumbled here from the "Tiny House Blog," a story there about the Nutmeg of Consolation. Interesting place you have here. Think I'll stick around a while, warm my hands by the fire and otherwise sit quietly and learn (Mark Twain once said, "Its better to keep your mouth closed and thought a fool rather than open it and remove all doubt.").

Now off to spend a bit of me pension on a bit of good music...

Hello Sephy from beautiful Belfair Washington. Have been a fan for years, but since I turned 50 I have become even more fond of Mr Dolby and his amazing works. I realize I have much to catch up on, but I know I will enjoy every second of it. :) Hope to learn much about his music. Off to listen to my old disc of The Flat Earth.

Hello from Lowell, Massachusetts, I have been a Thomas Dolby fan since the '80's, but had lost track of him- not his fault, but mine. I was thinking about the '80's, new wave, punk, heavy metal, then he just poped into my brain, so I did a search on him, and here I am. I have been doing this for the past year, searching for bands that I loved from the '50's, '60's, '70's, '80's up to today. I was also looking for jazz, pop, classical, gospel, country stars as well. Still am. My main instrment is guitar, but I also play keyboards, drums, bass, clarinet, and violin. I love being the multi-instrmentist. My first grade music teacher told me that a good musician listens to what is out there- she passed away recently, so to honor her memory, I listen to what is out there now, some of it is crap, but if there is a melody, I will listen to it.

Howdy to all, Just joined so only 4 years + behind the times, lots of catching up to do (while at work, naturally) Now I need to create a profile and go back in time to old posts. Grew up in Manchester, saw TMDR at the Hacienda back in the day (wearing a "heavy metal" wig and a keyboard guitar making fun of Metal and yet doing excellent "riffs") then moved to Memphis, Tennessee where I -yes it's true- MISSED him playing at the now-defunct EP Delta Lounge. I found out about it a day later and was truly upset! Oh well, time to put my reading glasses on and catch up... from what I heard over the years Thomas moved to LA, married a soap opera star, bought a lane then singlehandedly invented cellphones.... or something!

Hi, just joined. Love the photography / art for Amerikana. The feel to me is like a natural progression from other releases. Thanks, Thomas for actually doing it. I have always enjoyed all of the music you made, and never really stopped listening. That's not because I never moved on from the 80's either. Most of what I listen to is new releases - so the fact I keep coming back to your work means it is timeless to me rather than nostalgic.

Thomas Dolby was my soundtrack growing up. What a treat to enter such a community now! Looking forward to perusing and participating - and listening to Amerikana which has just now finished downloading.

Cheers,
Mark

Welcome to the Flat Earth Society, Mark! Pull up a chair and make yourself comfy. :) You're not alone with the "Dolby soundtrack for living" around here. I try to imagine what high school and college would have been without TMDR, and it's not quite possible!

BTW, just briefly visited your website in your sig line - I'll need to hunker down and give it a read, but just from a design standpoint, I like it.

Cheers,

Thanks for the welcome Merujo and MondoJohnny.

Also, thanks for following the link to my music site, Merujo. For the record, I take only a spoonful of credit for the site design - it's a Wordpress installation using the ThreatToCreativity. Oddly, for as much I listened to Thomas Dolby throughout my life, I can't profess to him being a musical influence.

Cheers,
Mark

p.s. loving Amerikana... could hear another collaboration with Jerry Garcia if he were still alive.

Hello,

WombatNeil from Kalamazoo, MI here. I'm a friend of Paul Sizer who's been doing some design work for Mr. Dolby and he's been telling me about what's going on over here, so I thought I'd check it out.

Thanks.

Tell Paul to pay us a visit. Just because he's best friends with Thomas now doesn't mean he can't pop by now and then!

Hiya.
Long Time Dolby fan currently residing near Oxford UK.

Another one who grew up with the first albums on repeat play. :D
I still have a magazine from 1984 which I kept because of the TMDR interview/cover. (OneTwoTesting, a now defunct musicians magazine.)

Thanks very mush for your 'moderation?'. I have been a fan since discovering Mr. Dolby's music in 1984 in high school. The Flat Earth album got me through some rough times in the late 80's and I will forever be in debt to Mr. Dolby. I live in Tallahassee FL. USA. His new music is exceptional and I'm looking forward to more! Hopefully this will spark a new era of creativity in his career. And how could it not, with his masterful use of 'wind power' (pun intended) and solar power. Cheers!
