On the other hand you could just practice a bit more. I remember we we had to do these exercises. They were really much harder than they look. The 'simple' things often turn out the most difficult!
Don't take it to heart. Look at it this way. You can pronounce R which put you ahead of most Japanese people!
I studied Japanese history at school and was a total Japanophile (?) until I visited the country. I was really disappointed. Sure it was interesting but the general mentality was too much for me to handle.
