Times are tough indeed.

I thought perhaps we could have a sticky thread listing what we do/sell/whatever that maybe isn't our primary work, but our passion, or what we are doing to fill unemployed days, or whatever.

I.E., perhaps we can help each other by checking out each others' talents.

Each of us can post in this thread once, please, with our side work, main work, whatever, if we would benefit directly from another Flat Earth person enjoying what we do. Keep it simple, and this thread will remain for perusing at any time as long as everyone just posts once.

Plus, it's just fun to learn what we all create and do, isn't it? Anything from personal accounting to making furniture or helping with resumes or....

For instance.

Great idea Lunesse, I love your work by the way. :)

My biggest passion is Origami, and although I've not sold a finished model I have done some work by requests. I am mostly hoping to make a few pennies through a referral ammount I get from my Blogs Amazon Web Store.

My Blog is located at: http://draceena.wordpress.com

I may be encouraged to also do comission work, so if interested do let me know and maybe we can work something out.

Wonderful idea. Without wishing to go over old ground again, here's my hobby, that I would love to turn into my job one day:

The Chris Painter Radio Show
7pm - 8pm Wednesday's on University Radio Falmer

To listen paste this link into your media player of preference: http://urfonline.com:8000/stream96k.mp3

It's primarily a phone-in show, focussing on whackiness rather than topical debate. I do play music aswell, but not as much as most.

The podcast with music edited out can be found here: http://www.cfww.libsyn.com

I have one radio show in New York
Another radio show on London
I repair iPods.
I help select music for adverts and soundtracks.

And that's not even my day job!

But we don't talk about that....

Quite a while ago I posted about my hobby, 3D string art.

viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1549" target="_blank

Many people replied with great comments and encouragement, and I've been working on more pieces, most notably an installation prototype that I would build into an upper corner of a gallery.

Corner Web Small - 2.jpg

Like many of you, I would love to get commissions to create very personalized pieces based on my designs or come up with something new together. When Spring is fully sprung, I have an outdoor piece I'll be completing. Looking forward to seeing peoples' responses to that.

Good to see more of this - I love to see the forms, patterns, textures created, either by the lighting or perspective of the viewer. Wish I could commision one and had the wherewithal to design one. Good luck!

Hi! I'm an audio production specialist with 25+ years experience in audio engineering, especially mixing orchestral and pop music for CD, film and TV, mixing soundtracks for live shows and multimedia, and supervision of foreign-language dubbing worldwide.
I've been doing a lot of travelling the last 15 years doing all the above, but now my former employer has eliminated my position in response to the world financial downturn.

I must admit I don't have specific hobby, other then listening to music, except to learn how to do new things. I have learned through the military and other sources how to do the following:
Weld, woodwork, fiberglass, sheetmetal, piping and plumbing, plexiglass, cement work, small engine repair, etc...if it was broke and they needed someone to help, I participated to learn. Everyone seems alot more talented and dedicated then myself with their skills. I just like to know a little about everything and enjoy what I learn.

My university radio show starts up for the Autumn term tomorrow night at 10pm UK time. The show will involve an eclectic mix of music, but hopefully a nice dollop of phone in too (if the phones are working, fingers crossed and all that).

During the day I am a lead software engineer at a bank. Its a bit boring, but it pays the bills :-)

By night I run a small record label releasing my own music. The label is called Haunted House Records.

http://www.hauntedhouserecords.co.uk/

And my artist name is creature:

http://creaturemusic.hauntedhouserecords.co.uk/

My music is a dark twinged electronic act. No fixed genre, just electronic :-) More for listening too than dancing too.

I also create pro sound libraries for musicians, film and TV. You can see these below:

http://sounddesign.hauntedhouserecords.co.uk/

I am also busy being a dad as of last May :-) Lots of fun so far :-)

Steve, your music is truly great! I disagree about the dancing though, late at night you might catch me doing my interpretive dance impressions to your greatest hits. But that's just me.

Cheers for the comments. I suppose what I meant really is that the tracks are not DJ friendly for a club but they are quite beaty :-)

Thanks for showing your work Lesley. I prefer the pastels to the oils, particularly the 'Grey Mare', it's very dream-like. As for your photos, the ones of R.E.M. are excellent. I saw them on the 'Green' tour way back and sneaked in (as you had to at that time) a small camera. I have photos of some Michael Stipe shaped specks to prove I was there.

Thanks, folks :D
To be fair to the oil paintings, most are not finished and the photos were a bit rushed and, I've not really been painting that long. I do agree though, that the pastels, at the moment, are the best. The Chestnut mare with foal is my particular favourite, but the group of mares with foals is my favourite oil and I have to say that the photo doesn't do it justice. Not to blow my own trumpet, I have high hopes for this one and I'll post a better picture when it's finished.

I was always better at drawing than painting so concentrated on the pastels but after my joungest son smudged a large drawing I was working on, I decided to take up the brush. Pastels are difficult to store and there is always the danger they will be damaged.
I don't think acrylics are for me. They dry too quick and there's just no time to blend. Now I've started using a quick drying medium with the oils, it gives me the best of all worlds. A lovely buttery consistency and a quicker time scale, turning weeks into days. I've just got to knuckle down and try and set some time each day to the painting.
