RIP Bill Kunkel

Postby Micistm » Fri Oct 21, 2011 1:56 pm

Hi guys,
not sure if many will know who Bill is, but Bill Kunkel is one of the original journalists and founders of video game magazines. Often went by the name, 'The Game Doctor.'
He started the original US mag 'Electronic Games' in the early '80s along with two others, and created the first (and IMO still the best) multi format videogame magazines.
They were great. Never patronising and talking down to what was perceived to be a young reader base, the features, writing, photos, and entire package was quality. Bill had a passion for games and the industry, and it showed in the standard of the mag, by gamers for gamers. There is also a book available on the life of Bill and the creation of the games mag industry, 'Confessions of the Game Doctor', from Rolenta Press.
Bill died a few weeks ago from what I believe was a heart attack. I was so sad to hear of his passing, and even sadder to realise little had been mentioned of it, I found the news by accident googling.

RIP Mate, thanks for the memories and enjoyment over the years.
