Thanks Coop and Jon for the turntable advice. I'll weigh my options (and my wallet!).

What is "MM"? I have an old turntable - it would be great to be able to hook it up to my computer...

As Mark said it MM for moving magnet cartridge. The likelihood is that yours is MC (moving coil) which means you can plug that baby straight in! All you need is a cable that takes the phono/cinch plugs and converts them into a 3.5mm stereo jack plug. (radio shack) and then plug that into the line IN of your sound card. CNET.com will give you programs for recording and removing scratches etc. The one I used was Goldwave and it was both excellent and free.

Easy! Let me know how you get on.

Cheers,
Jon

I did find this for $73 - GOTHIC SOUNDTRACK LPTESTPRESSINGx2 UK M-/M- (Near Mint) UK 2xLP 1 SIDED WHITE LABEL TEST PRESSING (V2417A/B) V2417AB but I'm skint.

Wonder if it's worth pursuing after xmas?

RARE DOLBY

Postby blackpooltangerine » Sat Nov 25, 2006 3:28 am

ONE OF MY FAVOURITE RAREITIES (I THINK) IN MY COLLECTION IS A FRENCH VINYL COPY OF THE GOTHIC LP THE PICTURE SLEEVE IS VERY DIFFERENT - I ALSO BELIEVE MY UK VERSION OF THE VINYL IS REPORTEDLY QUITE RARE WITH ONE OF THE PICTURES BEING THAT OF THE WOMAN WITH EYES ON HER CHEST,I BELIEVE THAT SLEEVE GOT BANNED AS THE ACTRESS HADNT AUTHORISED THIS - SO I BELIEVE ANYWAY.

I ALSO LOVE THE FRENCH PICTURE SLEEVE FOR THE WINDPOWER 12".

OMG. I need a turntable like that... O.o

Investigate ebuyer.com - they were selling these quite cheap recently. I mean cheaper than a traditional amp type unit.

Hold on

"Numark TTUSB Turntable (with Metal Platter & Pitch)" but it's now very expensive in the UK.

I have a PC and sound system dedicated to this sole job. It's taking me an age but every vinyl I rip is then stored away and kept dust free..... why do I do this? I suppose it feels like I'm keeping old friends alive. Surely it's not worth having records and not listening to them.....

I'm assuming the two 'W's are for Windpower and Weightless. . . but which is which, I wonder? :)

LOL indeed... or those round specs. I want a pair of those soooo much, but it's hard to find round lenses these days, it seems.

I think they're cool... how geeky is that?!? :P

Ah!

Sorry for double post, but oculists don't like fitting round lenses these days because they can rotate in the frames and move the optical centre. Astigmatism sufferers can often walk into solid walls as a result.

I don't need any vision problems to accomplish that, I run into walls for no reason other than to hurt something

Aww... :(

I'm sliiiiightly nearsighted, so I'm not sure that would be an issue for me, but that is too bad.

The last time I visited a For Eyes shop (two pairs of single vision eyeglasses, complete, for $99), they had a "Dolby specs/John Lennon specs" style in both silver and gold. I had my day of wearing similar specs back in the 80s when I was eligible for NHS free eyeglasses as a long-term student in the UK. LOVED those glasses. Ran them into the ground, eventually.

Now, round specs don't look so hot on me - I've gone to modified rectangles and "kinda" cat's eye deals.

Back to quietly lurking,

I must need new glasses myself - I thought you wrote 'occultists' instead of 'oculists'. . .
