Of Love and Distance....

Postby Midknight » Fri Aug 18, 2006 5:35 am

I just heard (and bought) "Valley of the minds eye" that reminded me of a poem I wrote some years back on an airplane napkin.

Sitting on a plane, I realized I left my heart behind. Closing my eyes, I realized love knows no distance.

Of Love and Distance

Your voice in my ear
Close as my heartbeat,
Waking without you
The day's incomplete.

Sun still shines
With a dimmer light,
Flowers still bloom
Paler shades of bright.

Lips touch yours
Through a picture frame,
Hoping love's zephyr
Brings you the same.

Night's cloaked dreams
Fruits bearing your face,
Of bodies entwined
In a motionless race.

Close your eyes
Close the distance,
For in my life
You are the difference.

A very beautiful poem, Midknight! Cool that you wrote it on an airplane napkin -- I read a magazine article in the 1980's about TMDR, in which he told of having written some drum tracks at cruising altitude. It seems that for some people, leaving the earth for an hour or so does something to rouse the muse. :)

That was indeed a lovely poem, Midknight. My girlfriend lives a long distance from me and we maintain a very good relationship despite this, so I can certainly empathize with this.

Couldn't Say It Any Better

That is simply beautiful. Do you write professionally ... it has such a nice flow and rhythm to it. Maybe with your permission, I could give a copy to my husband before he goes out on the road.
