Welcome, newcomers!

Postby Lunesse » Tue May 11, 2010 1:59 pm

I hope you enjoy your time here on the Flat Earth.

We are a fun, active board of Thomas Dolby fans. Dive right in and get into the conversations, you will find a lot of great info, trivia, and even more important, great people in here.

I am Lunesse, the moderator/admin of this forum, PM me with any problems you have, there is also a feedback section of the site if you come across any errors or have technical struggles.

We also have two moderators, Merujo and White City, who can be turned to if you are having board problems, want to delete a thread, or (this is very rare) need a moderator in a thread discussion.

This forum has an online chat system, you can find it to the right in the main navigation bar, and on the bottom of the main page you can see who is already in there chatting away.
You never know who will show up. =)

We are VERY happy to have you here! Enjoy your stay!

Er.... SCIENCE!!!

Well, I feel welcomed! Patiently waiting for the new Thomas Dolby music, and will make do with the Love is a Loaded Pistol. It just keeps repeating over and over while I work. I have been listening to Toad Lickers (pretty wild) and Oceania (pretty beautiful) from the Wired Podcast from last year. Truly excited to here more.

I am from Palmdale California (north Los Angeles County). I saw Thomas in 1983, 1988 (Lost Toy People) and then the "Sole Inhabitant" tour in 2006. He has lost nothing! Thanks for the free MP3s!

My favorite Albums of the 1980s:
Joshua Tree -U2
Sparkle in the Rain - Simple Minds
The Flat Earth - TD
English Settlement - XTC

A hearty welcome from Tacoma. I hope everyone who comes here will feel the same sense of community I've had since I joined in 2006. Great folks, great topics...and great music!

Hi China Doll and a warm welcome to you. I won't refer to you as 'me old China' on your first visit, but trust me, it's gonna happen.

(Just in case you're not from the U.K., that's kind of an East End, London expression and not an insult.)

Hello Dooley. It's fine ... I am from the UK.

I may move slowly, but I'm ok with a little banter.

hey everyone i am new to the community but a big fan. I remeber when my older brother brought home the album The Flat Earth back in 84 i heard the song flat earth and became a huge fan. Like many after his first album i thought he was just another one hit wonder (blinded me with science) but after that experience with the flat earth album i realized how wrong i was and went back and brought the golden age of wireless and waited for each new release till they stopped :( .But i got word he was coming back with new music and have been seeking info since. I finally got to see him a couple years ago live here in Denver at the Bluebird theatre, a :D great show.

Hi Jak, welcome to the forum :D

That was a long 'stop' wasn't it? But it's nearly over! Some new stuff should be out around the 19th of June, barring any further hiccups.

Hey, we sure are getting quite a few Denver people lately. I'm just down the road from you (well, compared to the U.K. etc).

Hi everyone;
Just joined up - have been a TD fan since the very beginning, back when it was a very lonely existence. Back then I was often ridiculed for liking the music; nobody seemed able to recognise the quality of the work or appreciate the high production values. So I carried the flame on my own (or so it seemed), hardly able to mention TD in conversation for fear of a scathing put-down or a look of blank incomprehension.
More recently however, I'm glad to say that I now have one or two friends who were also secret aficionados, and I am delighted that Thomas is returning to the music after such a long hiatus. The Sole Inhabitant very quickly became my favourite album - there's something about the solo minimalism of the tracks that really appeals to me, even more than the originals in many cases, and the techie in me really appreciates the skills required to coordinate all the gear in a live performance situation - what 'normal' muso has to deal with that degree of technical ability?
Have just downloaded Amerikana and have been listening to it on repeat play. I don't usually do the paid download thing, being old-fashioned enough to want something tangible to hold in my hand for my money; but as it feels like I'm directly supporting the creation of the rest of the album this way and not swelling the coffers of some anonymous corporation, I'm more than happy to contribute. Can't wait for the whole album!

cheers,
Grum

Hello, long time fan of the redoubtable Mr. Dolby, went along to the Golden Age of Wireless bash, and to the 'And Friends' do the following night, and joined up here the following day.

And here we are , only four months later, and I've made a post.

I sometimes go under the nom de internet 'Herr Döktor', and I am actually a part time mad scientist.

Hi All! Took me awhile to get here, but thus is the nature of exploration I suppose.

I'm an ex-pat American living in New Zealand (which would explain why I may appear a upside-down to those of you in the Northern Hemisphere.)

Question: I've just seen the Gotta-Have-It shirt from the Feb 28th, 2010 gig. Any idea from anyone where I can procure one? Feeling the need to fly the Flat Earth flag!

Hi Mercurial and welcome :D

All those fantastic T-shirts sold out on the night. I couldn't attend the gig and tried everything to get one of them (blackmail, guilt, threats etc.) but to no avail. Yet have we seen even one attendee post a photo of themselves in one of those shirts? We have not. Perhaps they're trying not to brag, which I appreciate, but I think it's time we saw someone wearing one.

Anyway, welcome again and enjoy the forum.
