I can only offer the venues for the 92 shows -

The Orange, London (Secret Gig)
Mean Fiddler, London
Clapham Grand, London

Maybe someone can get the dates of these shows but I will try to dig out the tickets at some point...

show not in the history

Postby DWGRadio » Fri May 19, 2006 5:51 pm

Several years ago I acquired a wonderful soundboard disc of a show from the Dominion Theater in London. It is dated August 11, 1984. Elsewhere on the message board I see it is discussed; it evidently originated on BBC6. It is from the Flat Earth Tour. The setlist is as follows:

Dissidents
The Flat Earth
One of Our Submarines
Puppet Theatre
New Toy
Airwaves
I Scare Myself
Hyperactive!
Europa and the Pirate Twins
She Blinded Me With Science
Windpower

An excellent set if you ever have the opportunity to hear it. I don't know if this is the complete show, although it seems to be. The sound quality is just slightly less that of a live album, but definately better than most RoIOs floating around. After seeing TMDR in Cleveland, I am anxiously awaiting any tour material he may get these urges to release. Stellar stuff!

Sadly not yet...but I'm hopeful I will come across the ticket at some point - it was definitely June because it was before Astronauts and Heretics and after Close But No Cigar was released and it coincided with a friend's birthday week. I remember the first track played was Silk Pyjamas which at the time nobody knew.

Triviaists (not a word but should be...) might be interested to know that he also performed at HMV store in Oxford Street London on 27th July 1992, appeared at the Radio 1 roadshow in Middlesborough (end of May) - despite the station not playlisting Cigar and also performed at a Virgin Records promotional gig around the same time. These were not concerts in the ticket purchasing sense of the word though.

6.20.87 San Juan Capistrano CA

I recall this show vividly...can't believe it was that long ago! We were close enough to the stage that we were able to hear in the middle of Blinded as he leaned over to a stage hand complaining that he "broke another damn Casio" and was quickly handed a replacement to rejoin the song. Cracked me up :)

I'm sure there are a few of the unmarried guys who have dates you've not had.

Better looking, too.

Stevie-

Thanks for giving us a glimpse of TMDR's performance history and bringing back some great concert memories! I feel fortunate to have experienced multiple stages of his live career. I heard the Flat Earth show in Chicago (June 6, 1984) and the Aliens show, also in Chicago (June 16, 1988). VERY different performances in two totally different venues: Flat Earth in the gorgeous Auditorium Theatre (Chicago architectual landmark) and Aliens in the tiny Cabaret Metro. I felt far away from the stage at the Auditorium, but got to the Metro early enough to stand right at Mr. Dolby's feet for that event. I seem to recall him doing a back flip at the beginning of the show...

Beechwood,

I too was at the '84 chicago show. My dad took me to my first concert ever. Hung around by the bus after and Thonas signed my tour book, and I remember the back flip too. Damn cool concert.

video snafus

Postby BeechwoodAve » Sun Oct 01, 2006 12:28 pm

Stevie-

Yeah- that show in 84 was just about my fav of all time... though I do remember the crew was having some difficulties with the video displays that evening. It didn't matter, as the music was slammin'!

Here's a challenge for you: add the names of venues to all of those years of tour dates!

Yeah, the obsessive nature needs a little supression some times. Speaking of obsessive... what is it you do for a living that allows you to travel to all these TMDR shows around the US? You must have one very understanding boss!

Hi StevieD,
You can add Norwich, University of East Anglia, UK 1983.

I had a ticket for this (long since lost) but couldn't go because i ended up in Canada at the time.

I'll see if I can come up with some more details.

White City, a date would be cool. (thank you)

Beechwood Ave. I'm a mentor to troubled teens, actually juggling 2 mentoring jobs, and working at a group home, whenever I am not going to shows I am working 70+hours a week, so they kinda have to be understanding...

I saw Thomas in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in 84 I think because he had flat Earth T-shirts and Hyperactive muscle shirts for sale.

I think Ronnie James Dio was in town the same night. Mr Dolby did a backflip off of his piano "To show he can do that kind of heavy metal rock thing too". That still happening at his shows?
