Great video work there! Really enjoyed it.

I wish we could have had these podcasts a few years ago when we were in rather a dry spell...
I feel like I am swimming in a sea of Dolby at the moment!

- I an NOT complaining!

Thanks a million for the update. I am really looking forward to next week.

Cheers,
Jon

Is this the book?

I believe this was first published in 1952. Was this the book Thomas has mentioned as being the inspiration for the title. I can only guess it is. It's still being published by this UK publisher. Great Video by the way!

Good work SID - if this isn't the one, you kinda feel it should be? What a great find!

You know I need to order that

Postby SpaceIntruderDetector » Thu Nov 23, 2006 1:31 pm

That would be a cool thing for him to autograph, besides I like to read miltary history books anyway. I have not read one yet about submariners and this one sounds like a real page turner.

You might want to look back at the origins of this weapons systems - I'm sure one was used in the american war of independence against the "imperial empire " of england. I think I remember (bad thing for me to do!) it sunk... if so, what a piece of synergy!

You are correct!

I have a whole bookshelf full of submarine tales and I have this one also. It does mention the man in the dedication but not very much within the book itself. Page 92 is where to look if you are that interested!

Cheers,
Jon

Page ref. is wrong. My memory fades...

iTunes

Postby Keith Was » Thu Nov 23, 2006 8:42 pm

FYI: I subscribed to the Thomas Dolby podcast at iTunes on 11/8/06. However, neither the Leipzig nor Submarines podcasts auto downloaded. Are they on iTunes yet? Thanks.

Nope, not my copy - found it on the web some months ago. I think I'll read (some copy of) the book though - just as soon as I finish 2 or 3 others (that are already on the runway/tarmac). Located one copy in a Colorado library (the only copy in a public library for the entire state) and ordered it today (Friday 24 Nov) ;-)

doing a bit of research: it was rereleased (although i'm not sure when) as "undersea patrol", which wouldn't make nearly as catchy a song. however, if you just want to read it, you can search under this title. according to worldcat (a collection of (nearly) every library catalog in the world), 164 libraries (in the world) have a copy under this title.
about 200 own a copy under the original title.
(just please don't steal from the library!)

My iTunes podcast updated just fine when I logged on this morning (after the holiday weekend here in the States).

"Submarines" downloaded immediately.

Found the problem. I subscribed to "Thomas Dolby's Blog" on iTunes when it became available a few weeks ago. However, the videos are part of a separate podcast "Sole Inhabitant". Subscribed to it last night, have the videos now. Just didn't realize it was 2 different podcasts.
